Devils Cruise Past Ravens 15-8 in Season Opener

Box Score MADISON, N.J.—The FDU-Florham Devils men's lacrosse team picked up a comfortable win in their opening tilt of the season by defeating Rosemont College 15-8 at Robert T. Shields Field on Saturday.

The Devils received an impressive performance from junior attacker Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West), who finished with five goals and an assist in the win. Reda was the Devils second leading scorer last season with 30 goals, while adding six assists and 36 points in his sophomore campaign.

Freshmen Connor May (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) and Shane McGhee (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township) kick-started their collegiate careers by netting four goals apiece in the victory. At the 14:03 mark of the first half, McGhee opened the scoring with an unassisted strike. Six minutes later, it was McGhee again ringing the bell as he put the Devils on top 2-0 with his second goal of the contest.

Only 12 seconds later, the Ravens answered back with a goal to cut the Devils lead to 2-1 with 8:34 to play. Both teams had several chances over the remainder of the first period and six minutes later Rosemont freshman Rasool Smith evened the score at 2-2.  FDU-Florham senior midfielder Lance O'Donovan (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) capped the first period scoring with his first goal of the season with only 10 ticks showing on the clock, and the Devils entered period number two with a 3-2 advantage.

The second period was all Devils, as Reda picked up his second goal 58 seconds into action. After a Ravens goal, the Devils responded with four unanswered strikes to build an 8-3 lead. The four-goal barrage comprised of goals by Reda, May, McGhee and Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland). Nine seconds before halftime the Ravens got one back and at the break FDU-Florham held an 8-4 lead.

Reda and May teamed up to score the first three goals of the second half, which built an 11-4 lead for the Devils that they would not relinquish. Thanks to a relentless attack the Devils totaled double-digit shot attempts in each of the four periods and finished with a 46-24 advantage.
