Lima Time! #4 Devils Rally To Eliminate #2 King's, 8-7

Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, PA - Trailing by a score of 7-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils got a RBI single from freshman outfielder Nicole Decker and a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Maggie Murphy to cut it to 7-6 with two outs and runners on second and third.  That's when junior catcher Sarah Lima stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-run single to give FDU an 8-7 lead and the Devils hung on in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate second-seeded King's in the Freedom Conference Tournament on Saturday morning.

With the win, the Devils improved to 21-19 while the Monarchs dropped to 23-9.  FDU will now go on to play third-seeded Manhattanville in another elimination game on Saturday beginning at 11:30 am.

King's jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before making it 4-0 in the bottom of the second.  The Monarchs then grabbed a 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the third but the Devils finally got going in the top of the fourth when freshman first baseman Wynne McCann smacked a three-run home run and junior second baseman Kristie Crilley drilled a solo shot to pull FDU to within 5-4.  The Monarchs added what they though were two insurance runs to take a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth but Crilley led off the top of the seventh with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch.  Decker then came up and drove her in to make it 7-5 with a RBI single before sophomore third baseman Christina Legotti roped a single of her own to give FDU runners on first and second with no outs.  Sophomore designated player Jackie Gioia followed with a single of her own to load the bases but King's got the first out when Decker got thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice from junior outfielder Brittni Wurst.  Murphy cut the lead to 7-6 on a sac fly to bring Lima to the plate with two outs and two on.  Lima then calmly roped a single up the middle to give the Devils their first lead, 8-7.  In the bottom of the 7th, King's got the first two batters of the inning on base but freshman pitcher Sydney Worek settled down and induced a pop up to first and a fielder's choice to get two outs with runners on first and second.  Then in what was the biggest spot in her freshman campaign, Worek struck out the next batter to seal the victory for FDU.

Lima finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI while Crilley was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.  Senior pitcher Karla Babb started the game and got a no-decision, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing four runs on five hits.  Worek came on in relief to toss the final 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Freedom Conference Tournament against third-seeded Manhattanville beginning at 11:30 am.
