Softball Takes Two at Home Against St. Joseph's LI

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham softball team swept its doubleheader against St. Joseph's LI Wednesday afternoon as the Devils took Game 1 7-5 followed by a 2-1 walk-off win in Game 2. 

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 1) HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Devils got on the board first in the second inning as Rodriguez singled home Signor. Rodriguez and Capparelli later crossed the plate on a two-run single from Reece to put FDU ahead 3-0. 
  • In the third, Wodecki singled home Lambright to extend the FDU lead to 4-0 followed by a two-run double from Rodriguez to make it a 7-0 Devils' lead. 
  • In the fifth, the Golden Eagles pushed across four runs to cut into the FDU lead and make it a 7-4 ballgame. 
  • Then in the sixth, the Golden Eagles scored once more on an FDU error but that was all St. Joseph's LI would muster as Sydney Grifone shut the door in the final two innings.  
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 2)
  • Lambright finished Game 2 with two hits. 
  • Wodecki played hero in Game 2 with a walk-off two-run double. 
  • Grifone tossed a complete game as she allowed just one run on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Eagles scored first in Game 2 as Gianna Brown singled down the left field line to plate Brook Bove and put St. Joseph's LI on top 1-0. 
  • It remained a 1-0 contest into the bottom of the sixth and as the sun was setting, Wodecki barreled a ball off the left field wall to plate Signor and Lambrght and give FDU the win as the game was called due to darkness.
GAME NOTES
  • Grifone's nine Ks set a new career-high for the senior.
UP NEXT
FDU returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Devils host Lebanon Valley in a MAC Freedom doubleheader. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
