Signor Homers Twice as Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Lebanon Valley

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham softball team swept its doubleheader against Lebanon Valley College Sunday afternoon as the Devils took Game 1 8-7 followed by a 4-2 win in Game 2 at home.
 
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 1)
  • Riley Signor led the offense with two home runs and three runs scored. 
  • Giulia Olear had a 2-for-3 day with one RBI and one walk. 
  • Mollie Reece went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Dutchmen got on the board first in the top of the first inning with a sac fly from Maddy Gronback to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • In the second, Signor homered to left to knot the game at 1-1, but in the third Gronback doubled home Miley Beachel to go ahead 2-1. 
  • In the bottom half, the Devils put up five runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Olear and Jada Lambright followed by an RBI-singles from Hailey Wodecki and Kylee Berg to push FDU ahead 6-2. 
  • The Dutchmen cut the FDU lead to just one at 6-5 after a two-run homer and an RBI-single. 
  • Then in the fifth, Signor homered and Abigail Rodriguez tripled home a run to make it an 8-5 FDU lead. 
  • The Dutchmen tacked on two more in the sixth, but a one-two-three top of the seventh from Sydney Grifone sealed the win for the Devils. 
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 2)
  • Lambright went 2-for-3 in Game 2 with two runs scored. 
  • Like Lambright, Berg also had a 2-for-3 game with three RBI. 
  • Hailey Wodecki went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
  • Grifone earned the win in relief after tossing 4 and 2/3 scoreless innings with one hit and four strikeouts. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In Game 2, the Dutchmen took a 2-0 lead after three innings as Nicole Kratz homered in the second and then drove in a run with a fly ball in the third. 
  • In the fourth, Wodecki plated Lambright with a single to right center to put FDU on the board. 
  • Then in the fifth, Berg socked a bases-clearing double to left center to give the Devils a 4-2 lead. 
  • In the sixth, after a lead-off walk, Grifone induced a double play followed by a 1-3 putout to end the inning. 
  • Grifone then shut the door in the top of the seventh and cemented the 4-2 win and the doubleheader sweep. 
UP NEXT
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 1 as FDU heads to Arcadia for another MAC Freedom bout.
