Cody McHugh notched three goals and an assist to lead the College at Florham Devils to their first win of the 2013 season, an 11-3 triumph over Maritime in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 1-3 while the Privateers dropped to 1-4.
FDU got off to exactly the start they were looking for, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter on their way to an 8-0 halftime advantage. In the first, the Devils got goals from McHugh, senior midfielder
Joe Yobbi, and junior midfielder
Jake Higgins while McHugh scored two goals in the second quarter to go along with a goal apiece from Reda, Yobbi, and sophomore attack
Frank Salustri.
Reda made it 9-0 just 4:37 into the third quarter before Maritime finally got on the board. Reda got that goal right back to give FDU a 10-1 advantage but the Privateers scored the final goal of the third to make it 10-2 heading into the last quarter. The majority of the quarter was scoreless until the final three minutes when Maritime cut it to 10-3, but Reda responded again with the final goal of the game as the Devils picked up their first victory of the season.
Yobbi finished the game with two goals, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers while senior midfielder
Cory Weiss recorded three assists. Senior midfielder
Ryan Reuther went 10-for-17 on faceoffs and picked up five ground balls. Yotcoski was brilliant in goal all day, as he faced 35 shots and made 16 saves while allowing just three goals.
The Devils return to action on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Christopher Newport beginning at 4 pm.
