Comeback Attempt Falls Short As Devils Lose To Eastern, 8-7

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, PA - Trailing 7-2 entering halftime, the College at Florham Devils scored three goals in the third quarter and two goals in the fourth quarter but came up just short, falling to Eastern by a score of 8-7 in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 6-7 (2-2 Freedom) while the Eagles improved to 10-4 (4-0 Freedom).

Eastern got off to a great start, scoring the first two goals of the game before senior midfielder Paul Colflesh made it 2-1 with 6:59 left in the first quarter.  The Eagles then reeled off five straight goals to grab a 7-1 advantage before Colflesh cut it to 7-2 with 3:28 to go before intermission.

It was the Devils turn to go on a run starting the second half as Colflesh scored two goals sandwiched around a goal from junior attack Brian Goodwine to make the score 7-5 with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter.  After Eastern made it 8-5 with 2:23 to go in the third, FDU cut it to 8-6 on a goal from Goodwine with 13:28 to play in the fourth.  The score stayed that way until there was 0:10 left in the game as sophomore midfielder Jake Higgins made it 8-7.  FDU needed just a little more time though, as the clock ran out after the ensuing faceoff allowing Eastern to pick up the win.

Colflesh finished the game with four goals while Goodwine added two goals and an assist.  Sophomore goalkeeper George Beck suffered the loss, making nine saves.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at home for Senior Day against DeSales beginning at 2 pm.
