Devils Downed By King's, 13-7, In Freedom Opener

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by King's, 13-7, in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 4-6 (0-1 Freedom) while the Monarchs improved to 5-5 (1-0 Freedom).

King's scored the first goal of the game but FDU came back with two in a row when sophomore midfielder Jake Higgins scored a pair of goals.  The Monarchs then scored three straight to grab a 4-2 lead with 7:14 left in the second quarter.  After senior attack Brian Goodwine scored to make it 4-3, King's scored the final two goals of the half to grab a 6-3 halftime advantage.

The Monarchs picked up where they left off to start the third quarter, scoring four of the first five goals to take a 10-4 lead with 8:43 to go.  The Devils tried to make a rally as senior attack Adam Koontz and Higgins scored back-to-back goals to cut it it 10-6 with 4:10 to play but King's scored the final two goals of the third to make it 12-6 heading into the fourth quarter.  The Monarchs tallied the first goal of the fourth, just 0:22 in, but FDU got that goal back when senior midfielder Paul Colflesh scored with 10:46 to go.  That was all the Devils could get though as King's did a good job running out the clock to preserve the win.

Higgins finished the game with four goals and an assist while Koontz notched a goal and two assists.  Freshman goalkeeper Gerry Yotcoski suffered the loss, making two saves.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at home against Manhattanville beginning at 7 pm.
