Cody McHugh scored three goals while freshman midfieler
Jake Higgins added two goals and an assist to lead the College at Florham Devils to an 8-4 victory over King's in the Middle Atlantic Conference opener for both schools on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 3-2 (1-0 MAC) while the Monarchs dropped to 2-4 (0-1 MAC).
FDU opened the scoring with 9:16 left in the first quarter when senior long stick midfielder
Rob Novack found the back of the net. After King's tied it at 1-1 just 0:30 later, McHugh converted a feed from freshman midfielder
Nick Ardolino to give the Devils a 2-1 advantage with 3:31 left in the quarter. King's took control in the first half of the second quarter, scoring two straight goals to grab a 3-2 advantage but the Devils came back with two consecutive goals of their own to take a 4-3 halftime lead when Higgins and junior attack
Adam Koontz notched goals.
The Devils kept the heat on in the third quarter, as Higgins, McHugh and junior attack
Pat O'Brien scored to give FDU a 7-3 lead heading into the fourth. The game stayed at 7-3 for the first 13:30 but the Monarchs scored with 1:24 to go in the game to make it 7-4 but the Devils got that goal left with 0:36 remaining when McHugh scored the insurance tally.
