MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were knocked off by #7 Haverford, 9-6, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 1-1 while the Fords improved to 2-1.
FDU got on the board first, just 1:13 into the game, when junior midfielder
Pat O'Brien converted a pass from junior midfielder
Paul Colflesh. The Fords scored the next two goals before the Devils tied it at 2-2 with 3:56 left in the first quarter on a goal by freshman midfielder
Jake Higgins. Haverford scored the final goal of the first period but FDU tied it 3-3 just with only 0:07 gone by in the second quarter thanks to a faceoff win and goal by freshman midfielder
Billy Deignan. The two squads traded goals, with FDU's coming from senior attack
Drew Canfield, to make it 4-4 with 12:07 left in the half but the Fords then ripped off three in a row to make it 7-4. The Devils notched the final goal of the half with 1:39 left as Colflesh found the back of the net.
It was all Haverford in the third quarter, as they scored both goals to grab a 9-5 advantage heading into the fourth. Junior midfielder
Adam Koontz scored to cut the deficit to 9-6 with 10:54 left to play but that was all the Devils could muster, though they had some good looks to get even closer.
Freshman goalkeeper
Dino Vitale made 10 stops while Colflesh finished with a goal and an assist.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, when they take on Gordon in San Diego, CA, beginning at 5 pm eastern, 2 pm pacific.
