CHESTER, PA - The College at Florham Devils got goals from five different players, including the game-winner by junior attack
Drew Canfield (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) with 2:11 left in overtime, to beat Widener by a score of 5-4 (OT) in a crucial Middle Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 6-4 (5-1 MAC) while the Pride dropped to 5-6 (4-2 MAC).
Sophomore midfielder
Paul Colflesh (Moorestown, NJ/Holy Cross) started the scoring for the Devils but Widener responded with the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. FDU had both tallies in the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3 heading into halftime on goals by sophomore midfielder
Pat O'Brien (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and senior attack
Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon).
Widener grabbed a 4-3 advantage just 2:54 into the third quarter but freshman midfielder
Mike Sheehan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's Metuchen) tied it at 4-4 with 10:22 left in the third. The fourth quarter was scoreless, though the two teams had several opportunities to convert the game-winner. The overtime session started with double penalties but FDU gained possession first. Shadiack got off a shot but it was saved and while Widener was trying to clear the ball, they turned it over with Colflesh coming up with the ground ball. After a timeout by the Devils, Canfield notched the game-winner allowing FDU to pick up a big road victory.
Colflesh finished with a goal and an assist while senior midfielder
Taylor Evans (Easton, PA/Easton) dominated the face-offs, winning 10-of-13. Senior goalkeeper
Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) was stellar in goal, making eight saves to pick up the win.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at home against Messiah beginning at 1 pm.
