MADISON, NJ - Trailing 7-3 just 0:24 into the fourth quarter, the College at Florham Devils rallied to beat Lycoming, 9-8 (2OT), in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon with the game-winning goal coming from senior attack
Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) with 2:35 left in the second overtime.
With the win, the Devils improved to 5-4 (4-1 MAC) while the Warriors dropped to 5-5 (3-2 MAC).
The Devils scored the first two goals of the game when Shadiack and freshman attack
Brian Gill (Levittown, NY/East Meadow) found the back of the net. Lycoming cut it to 2-1 with 8:19 left in the second quarter but Gill got that right back to make it 3-1 in favor of FDU. That's when Lycoming made their big run though, closing the half with four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead into intermission.
The Warriors then scored the lone goal of the third quarter, with 0:27 left, to grab a 6-3 advantage. Lycoming converted a man-up opportunity to take a 7-3 lead with 14:36 left in the fourth quarter. The Devils dug in and began their comeback with Shadiack scoring back-to-back goals to cut it to 7-5 with 13:11 left in regulation. Sophomore midfielder
Paul Colflesh (Moorestown, NJ/Holy Cross) scored to make it 7-6 just a minute later and then freshman attack
Seth Molek (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) tied it at 7-7 off a feed from junior attack
Drew Canfield (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) with 7:55 to. It looked like Molek would be the hero as he put FDU up 8-7 when he scooped up the loose ball off a save and put it in with 4:54 remaining. Lycoming didn't quit though, as they got a stop on defense and scored with 2:05 to go to tie the game at 8-8.
Each team had chances at the end of regulation and in the first overtime but the two goalkeepers came up big in keeping the game tied. Senior midfielder
Taylor Evans (Easton, PA/Easton) won the face-off to start the second overtime and the Devils never gave the ball back as Shadiack notched the game-winner with 2:35 left to play.
Shadiack finished the game with four goals while Gill and Molek added two apiece. Senior goalkeeper
Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) made fives saves to pick up the win. Junior defender
Jason Fluss (Farmingdale, NY/Sachem) and junior long stick midfielder
Rob Novack (Madison, NJ/Madison) each played superbly on defense as they caused four and three turnovers, respectively.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Widener beginning at 7 pm.
