MADISON, NJ - Senior attack
Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) scored with 2:15 gone by in overtime to give the College at Florham Devils a 9-8 win over DeSales in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 2-4 (1-1 MAC) while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-5 (1-1 MAC).
DeSales jumped out to a 2-0 lead before freshman attack
Brian Gill (Levittown, NY/East Meadow) scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder
Paul Colflesh (Moorestown, NJ/Holy Cross) with 4:01 left in the first period to make it 2-1. The Bulldogs got the final goal of the quarter to take a 3-1 advantage but sophomore midfielder
Pat O'Brien (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored two goals sandwiched around a DeSales goal that cut the Bulldog lead to 4-3 with 8:27 to go in the first half. Once again, the Bulldogs scored the final goal of the quarter and took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
FDU notched the first two goals of the third quarter on tallies by Colflesh and junior attack
Drew Canfield (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), with Gill assisting on both goals, to tie the game at 5-5 with 8:24 left in the quarter. DeSales scored two of the final three goals in the third to take a 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Canfield tied it at 7-7 with 11:44 remaining but DeSales went back ahead, 8-7, with 7:53 left in regulation. With 4:37 to play, Gill tied the game off a pass from freshman midfielder
Mike Sheehan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's Metuchen). Each team had opportunities to score down the stretch and Shadiack had a good look at the potential game-winner with 0:02 to go but couldn't convert. He did however, convert in the overtime to even FDU's conference record at 1-1.
Canfield finished the game with three goals while Gill had two goals and three assists. O'Brien had two goals and Colflesh recorded a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper
Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) made eight saves to pick up the win.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Alvernia beginning at 4 pm.
