Devils Fall To USMMA In Overtime, 8-7

KING'S POINT, NY - Down 7-5 with 5:25 left in regulation, senior attack Kevin Shadiack (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and freshman attack Seth Molek (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) scored two goals in the span of 0:23 to tie the game at 7-7 but USMMA scored the game-winner with 2:57 left in overtime to beat the College at Florham Devils, 8-7, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Mariners scored the first two goals of the season before sophomore midfielder Pat O'Brien (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored with 7:51 left in the first quarter to make it 2-1.  After USMMA scored just 2:05 into the second quarter, O'Brien made it 3-2 when he converted a pass from Shadiack with 3:33 left in the half.  The Mariners however, took a 4-2 lead into intermission when they found the back of the net with 0:59 to go.

FDU scored the lone goal of the third quarter to make it 4-3 when sophomore midfielder Adam Koontz (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) scored off a feed from freshman midfielder Mike Sheehan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph's Metuchen).  The Devils tied it at 4-4 early in the fourth quarter when Molek scored unassisted but USMMA came right back to score the next two goals to grab a 6-4 lead with 8:24 to play.  Junior attack Drew Canfield (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) made it 6-5 off a feed from Sheehan with 5:59 remaining but USMMA got that one right back just 0:34 later to make it 7-5.  Shadiack made it 7-6 with 3:02 to and Molek sent the game to overtime when he made it 7-7 with 2:39 left.  Each team had a chance in the extra session but the Mariners were the one to convert to earn the victory.

O'Brien and Molek each had two goals while Sheehan added two assists.  Shadiack finished with a goal and an assist.  Senior goalkeeper Alex Kajencki (Medfield, MA/Xaverian) made 11 stops in net.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Haverford beginning at 4 pm.
