NEWTOWN, Pa. – FDU-Florham baseball battery mates,
Peter Longo and
Eddie Appollina, swept this week's MAC Freedom weekly honors as Longo was named Player of the Week and Appollina was named Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Longo, a junior from Cherry Hill, N.J. provided the thump at the plate for the Devils this past week as FDU went 2-0 in its opening weekend. Longo went 2-for-5 with a double and drove in four runs in FDU's 9-8 win over Saint Elizabeth. Then in the Devils' second game of the day, Longo crushed a solo homer to left and worked a walk in what was a 3-2 walk-off win against Drew.
In FDU's win over the Rangers, Appollina tossed six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and punched out seven on just 91 pitches. Despite getting the no decision, he put his team in a great spot to win the ballgame.
This was only the third time in the last 10 years that the Devils won their first two games in a row.
Appollina, Longo, and the rest of the Devils baseball team return to the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 25 as the Devils take on PSU-Berks. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
