Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 25)- In the Monarch Open, hosted by King's, the FDU-Florham Men's Track & Field Team saw two program records to cap its final regular season meet, as well as the last chance to qualify for MAC Championships.
Starting off the invitational was
Navir Gandy as he raced in the 100m and clocked a time of 12.13, taking fourth overall.
Lucas Sorrentino (Staten Island, NY) and
Francisco Tanez (West Orange, NJ) were just .01 seconds off each other's times as they crossed the line first (12.21) for fifth overall and Tanez finished sixth (12.22).
The Devils also competed in the 200m and almost saw straight placements with result of sixth, seventh, and ninth. The fastest time in the event for FDU-Florham was
Ty Wagner (Wappingers Fall, NY) (24.10), who was then followed by Tanez (24.33), and rounding out the event was Gandy (24.47).
Taking his first win of the event of his career was
Shane Breedlove (Richmond, Va.), who ran the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:01.22. Teammate
Norbert Martinez (Roxbury, NJ) finished in eighth place with a time of 1:07.75.
Now getting into the mid-distance events, the 800m held five different Devil student-athletes, with the best finish coming from
Luke Passarelli (Brick, NJ) who took 13
th overall with a time of 2:07.63.
Emmanuel Torode (Roxbury, NJ) started his first race of the day with a placement of 18
th overall and time of 2:09.76, with
Evan McGinnity finishing directly behind in 19
th place with a time of 2:10.55.
Beckett Burcat (Basking Ridge, NJ) and
Kyle Savannah finished the event for FDU-Florham with a times of 2:16.23 and 2:17.53 and placements of 21
st and 22
nd.
The first record of the meet for FDU was broken in the 1500m as Torode broke his record from last season with a time of 4:30.05, which was not the fastest time of the event overall (14
th). Savannah attempted to go stride for stride, but fell to 19
th overall and a time of 4:49.98. Burcat was the last Devil to finish as he took 22
nd overall after stopping the clock at 4:54.06.
The field events were highlighted by
Joseph Teresi (Ocean Twp, NJ) who win the discus throw with a distance of 43.60m, breaking his own school record from pervious meets this season.
Also seen throwing far was
Jason Nonnenmacher (Staten Island, NY), who took 12
th with a throw of 25.74m in the Javelin.
The high jump collected three different Devil marks, with Passarelli recording the lowest height reached on his three attempts with 1.57m total. Gandy gave it his effort and took ninth overall with a high of 1.62m. The top performance of the day for FDU-Florham was
Chigbo Mbaekwe, who only placed sixth with a record of 1.72m.
Two relay teams were also established in the 4x100m (44.01) and the 4x200m (3:31.50), which resulted in the third and second best combined efforts in the meet.
FDU-Florham will prepare itself for the MAC Outdoor Championships, taking place on Thursday, May 1
st and Friday, May 2
nd, hosted by York.
