Madison, N.J. (April 3)- Five swimmers including
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, NJ), Brynn Kelly (Pequannock, NJ), Isabel Thierman (Belmar, NJ), Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ), and
Michael Bang (Succasunna, NJ) represented the FDU-Florham Men's and Women's Swimming team this season as they were named College of Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team this season.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes Men's and Women's Swimming honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District team, the student-athlete must have competed in 90% of the teams' total meets or while also being over a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Fazzio, who posted a 3.64 cumulative GPA as a Nursing major, helped break the school record in the 200-medley relay on day two of the ECAC Championships with a collective time of 1:58.84. His best personal performance this season came in the MAC Championships when she clocked a 1:01.30 in the 100 fly.
Kelly, a psychology major, helped clock a time of 2:15.23 for her team in the 200-medley relay during the MAC Championships while maintaining a 3.88 cumulative GPA. Also during the MAC Championships, she recorded a season-best of 31.93 in the 50 fly.
As a junior majoring in Biology: Pre-Pharmacy, Thierman maintained a 3.67 cumulative GPA this season. She was seen in the pool against King's claiming a season-best time of 1:24.43 in the 100 breast. In a team effort, she also was responsible for helping the Devils finish the 200-medley relay in the MAC Championships with a time of 2:15.23.
Dougherty claimed a cumulative GPA of 4.0 during the 2023-24 season, as a Biology major. The graduate student was seen in the pool during the MAC Championships and swam for a time of 2:12.19 in the 200 IM, claiming her sixth MAC Championship medal. She finished her collegiate career at the ECAC Championships in the 200 back for a time of 2:12.10.
Representing the men was Bang, as the Communications major finished his sophomore season with a 3.67 cumulative GPA. In the pool, he swam a personal best of 1:02.21 in the 100 breast while competing at the Ranger Invitational early in the season. During the MAC Championships, he was seen gliding through the pool during the 800-free relay, clocking a final time of 7:34.51.
