Staten Island, NY (October 14) – The FDU-Florham women's swim notched two wins in their season-opener as well as seeing six of their student-athletes notch Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship qualifying times during Saturday's tri-match at the College of Staten Island. They defeated the Dolphins, 138-83 and were victorious against Mount Saint Mary, 150-37.
Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) collected two first-place finishes and two MAC qualifying times in the 100 breast (1:13.67) and in the 200 IM (2:18.60).
Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, NJ) did the same thing with conference qualifying times of 25:58 in the 50 free and 1:02.92 in the 100 back that were both first-place finishes.
Magda Konopka (Paramus, NJ) joined Sarah and Katelyn with two MAC qualifying times and two first-place finishes when she touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.85 and in the 100 free with a time of 57.91.
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, NJ) found two MAC conference qualifying times in Saturday's meet. First, in the 100 fly where she clocked a 1:04.01for a first-place finish and then in the 100 free where she clocked a 2:10.25 for a second-place finish right behind Konopka.
Lauren Stone (Middletown, NJ) earned a conference championship qualifying time in the 50 free with a 26.79 finish that was good for third place in the event. She also competed in the 100 free and touched the wall third with a time of 1:01.28.
Ashley Smith (Tinton Falls, NJ) notched a MAC qualifying time in her first collegiate meet in the 100 free, clocking a 1:00.30 for a second-place finish behind Konopka. She also swam in the 200 free and finished third behind Konopka and Fazzio with a time of 2:12.18.
The Devils also fielded two relay teams that finished first at the meet. The 200-medley team of Plank, Dougherty,
Riley Signor (Media Pa.), and Stone finished with a team time of 1:58.79. The 200 free relay team of Konopka, Fazzio, Smith and
Jessica Mooney (Cranford, NJ), touched the wall first with an overall time of 1:47.39.
FDU-Florham is back in action on Saturday, October 28 as they travel to square off with Western Connecticut at 12:00 pm.
