Madison, NJ (December 3) – On the opening night of the 2021 Drew University Ranger Invitational, junior
James Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) highlighted the effort for the Devils as he broke the school record in the 200-yard IM. After one day in the pool, the FDU-Florham men's swimming team ranks fifth in the standings.
In addition to Dougherty's record breaking swim, the Devils posted five times faster than the qualifying standard for the 2021-22 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship meet over the two sessions swam today.
Dougherty's record breaking swim came in the first event of this morning's session, the 200-IM, as he finished third overall with a career best time of 2:01.59.
Senior
Anthony Muschiatti (Rahway, NJ) and first-year
A-Izaiah Bryant (New Castle, Del.) both registered qualifying times for the MAC Championship in the 50-free as Muschiatti finished 17th in 23.39 and Bryant took 18th with a time of 23.42. Sophomore
Jacob Grusemeyer (Salem, NJ) finished 21st in the event with a time of 25.04.
In the 200-medley relay, junior
Jack Hulsart (Old Bridge, NJ), Dougherty, Grusemeyer and Muschiatti teamed up for an eighth place finish with a time of 1:45.66, which sits the quartet just outside the top ten in the league this season.

James Butcher (West Orange, NJ) concluded the morning session with their swims in the 1650-free. Hulsart took 11th place in 19:51.30, while Butcher placed 13th in 22:56.30.
Grusemeyer and Muschiatti highlighted tonight's session with qualifying times for the MAC Championship in their respective individual events.
The session began with the Devils posting a seventh place finish in the 200-free relay as Muschiatti, Dougherty, Bryant and Grusemeyer teamed up for a time of 1:32.66, which ranks eighth in the league this season.
In the 100-fly, Grusemeyer touched the wall in a qualifying time of 1:01.69 for 13th place. Dougherty also competed in the event and notched a time of 55.61 in an exhibition swim.
In the 200-free, Muschiatti touched the wall in a qualifying time of 1:58.87 for 18th place, while Bryant took 21st place in 2:08.97 and Butcher placed 2rd in 2:26.18.
In the final event of tonight's session, Hulsart, Dougherty, Grusemeyer and Muschiatti placed seventh in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:59.40.
The Devils will return to the pool tomorrow morning for the second day of the Ranger Invitational. The morning session will begin at 9:30 am and the evening session will start at 5:00 pm.
