Dougherty Breaks 200 IM School Record as Men's Swimming Opens Ranger Invitational

Madison, NJ (December 3) – On the opening night of the 2021 Drew University Ranger Invitational, junior James Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) highlighted the effort for the Devils as he broke the school record in the 200-yard IM. After one day in the pool, the FDU-Florham men's swimming team ranks fifth in the standings.

In addition to Dougherty's record breaking swim, the Devils posted five times faster than the qualifying standard for the 2021-22 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship meet over the two sessions swam today.

Dougherty's record breaking swim came in the first event of this morning's session, the 200-IM, as he finished third overall with a career best time of 2:01.59.

Sophomore Jacob Grusemeyer (Salem, NJ) finished 21st in the event with a time of 25.04.

In the 200-medley relay, junior Jack Hulsart (Old Bridge, NJ), Dougherty, Grusemeyer and Muschiatti teamed up for an eighth place finish with a time of 1:45.66, which sits the quartet just outside the top ten in the league this season.

Grusemeyer and Muschiatti highlighted tonight's session with qualifying times for the MAC Championship in their respective individual events.

The session began with the Devils posting a seventh place finish in the 200-free relay as Muschiatti, Dougherty, Bryant and Grusemeyer teamed up for a time of 1:32.66, which ranks eighth in the league this season.

In the 100-fly, Grusemeyer touched the wall in a qualifying time of 1:01.69 for 13th place. Dougherty also competed in the event and notched a time of 55.61 in an exhibition swim.

In the 200-free, Muschiatti touched the wall in a qualifying time of 1:58.87 for 18th place, while Bryant took 21st place in 2:08.97 and Butcher placed 2rd in 2:26.18.
