STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (December 8, 2018) - Sophomore
Eric Bang set a school and Staten Island pool record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, but the FDU-Florham men's swimming team was knocked off by CSI 123-94 Saturday afternoon.
Bang led off the individual events with a time of 10:12.94 in the 1,000, surpassing
Peter Milazzo's previous school-record time of 10:16.55. The sophomore was a part of three winning events on the day, as he also took first in the 500-freestyle. Bang notched a time of 4:58.23, 17 seconds faster than second place. The Roxbury, N.J. native also part of the first place 200-medley relay team with freshmen
Samuel DiLiberto and
Ethan Cross along with junior
Michael Illick. The quartet notched a time of 1:50.22.
Also in the 1,000-free, freshman
James Butcher placed second with a time of 12:08. Butcher also touched fourth in the both 100-butterfly (1:08.16) and the 500-freestyle (6:04.44). Sophomore
Josh Atkins was narrowly edged in the 200-yard freestyle, missing first by .51 seconds. Atkins recorded a time of 1:58.66 which was a season-low in the event.
DiLiberto took third in the 50-free, registering a time of 23.91. The rookie was a mere .76 second away from first and just .04 off of second place. Senior
Nicholas DiBenedetto picked up four points with a second place mark of 2:14.52 in the 200-yard IM, while Cross finished the same event in 2:22.88. DiBenedetto, Illick and freshman
Sebastian Romano all scored points in the 100-butterfly, with the senior touching the wall in 1:00.64 Illick was just .33 seconds behind DiBenedetto for third.
The freshman DiLiberto won the 100-yard backstroke, taking first with a time 1:00.42. He narrowly missed his season-low time, missing by .14 seconds. Illick and Cross closed out the individual events by combining for seven points in the 100-breaststoke. Illick was second in 1:11.14 while Cross was third in 1:13.60. Romano and Atkins teamed up with freshmen
Anthony Muschiatti and
Chris Kunka in the 200-freestyle relay, turning in a second place time of 1:41.6.
FDU returns to action on Saturday, January 5 when they take on Western Connecticut State at 12 p.m.
