MONTCLAIR, N.J.(January 3, 2017) - The FDU men and women's swim team were defeated by Montclair State in the 2017 opener on Tuesday.
The women dropped a 117-62 decision while the men fell 147-80.
WOMEN'S RECAP
In the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, the Devils took second, aided by a 27.79 split from
Sarah Bennett in the anchor spot.
Mackenzie Doherty and
Sarah LeChard went 3-4 in the 50 yard breaststroke, as Doherty was a mere 1.02 seconds behind first.
Samantha Irace took first in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 1:10.62, while Doherty and LeChard claimed the top-2 spots in the 100-breast, as Doherty turning in a time of 1:19.22. Irace also was first in the 500-free, finishing in 5:55.25. Bennett and LeChard placed first and second respectively in the 50-yard butterfly, with Bennett turning in a mark of 30.08 and LeChard in 34.46.
MEN'S REPORT
The 200-medley relay unit of
Craig Bucsak,
Justin Cole,
Michael Illick and Favian Nyugen took third in the opening event, recording a mark of 1:50.31. Standout
Bohdan Semak won the 200-free, finishing in 1:51.48 and holding off the MSU competitor by a mere .08 seconds. Semak was also edged out of first place by .01 seconds in the 50 yard free, settling for second in 22.71.
Bucsak and
Zach Sykes took the top-2 spots in the 100-back, as Bucsak was first in 1:11 and Sykes second in 1:15.98. Semak also placed second in 100-free, finishing in 51.70. The Devils trio of
Stephen O'Brien, Cole and Nyugen finished 1-2-3 in the 100-breaststroke, while Nick DiBenedetto and Sykes turned in first and second place times in the 500-free.
