MADISON, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham swim teams dropped their first meet of 2016 season to Montclair State University at the Ferguson Recreation Center on Monday afternoon.
The men dropped their meet 122-69, while the women fell to the Red Hawks 126-62.
On the men's side record-breaking freshman Bohdan Semak earned a victory for the Devils in the 200-yard freestyle event by touching the wall in 1:53.71. Semak went on to win the 100-free in 51.88 before teaming up with Alexiy Stolyarov, David Nadler, and Nick DiBenedetto to earn the victory in the 400-yard freestyle. The relay cruised to the victory by clocking in at 3:32.72 in the event.
Stephen O'Brien registered the best time in the 100-yard breaststroke event by finishing in 1:08.07.
Samantha Irace led the FDU-Florham women with a strong showing in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Irace outlasted the competition to stake the victory in 12:36.98. Irace, along with Sarah Bennett, Alex Duarte and MacKenzie Doherty came out on top in the 400-yard freestyle event in 4:20.03. Earlier in the day, Doherty outswam her teammates in the 100-yard breaststroke event for a best time of 1:20.10.
The Devils are off for a team trip to Puerto Rico this weekend before returning to action on Saturday, January 16 in Annville, Pa. against Lebanon Valley College.
