WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the fourth consecutive season, the FDU-Florham men's tennis team qualified for the Freedom Conference Tournament and this year the Devils were bested by the King's College Monarchs 5-1 in the semifinal match on Tuesday afternoon in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
The Monarchs opened up doubles play with an 8-1 win over Max Moscowitz (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and Chris Ly (Staten Island, N.Y.). Senior Mitch Gettis (Reading, Pa.) then took the court with freshman Steven Serras (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and they notched a 9-7 victory over Tyler Ryman and John Labiak. King's was able to come out on top in the final doubles match with an 8-6 win.
In singles play, the Devils struggled and were defeated in the first three completed matches while the next three went unfinished. In number one singles, Gettis was taken down by Steven Brand, 6-1, 6-0. Serras held his own against Ryan Hegarty of King's, but was ultimately defeated, 6-0, 6-4. In number five singles, Jason Dubinsky fell to Matt James, 6-2, 6-3.
