Devils Field Hockey Downs Ducks 4-2

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Senior Niki Ikeda's (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) two goals propelled the FDU-Florham field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

The Devils (4-2, 0-0 Freedom) have now won two straight, while the loss drops the Ducks to 3-4 on the campaign.

In the 20th minute of play, the Ducks claimed a 1-0 advantage when junior forward Dailyn Brook fired home an assist from Taylor Welch. Brook was in excellent position on the play as she anxiously waited on the left post for the feed from Welch.

The Devils, who outshot the Ducks 21-15 in the game, evened the score at the 29:45 mark on senior Gabriella D'Amico's (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview) second goal of the season. D'Amico slapped in a cross from Kim Davis (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) for the equalizer. The game remained knotted at one for the duration of the half.

Just over six minutes into the second stanza, Ikeda put the Devils on top with a blast from the top of the circle that came courtesy of a penalty corner from Davis. With the Devils now leading 2-1, Ikeda struck again, this time off of a great pass from freshman forward Gabby Allen (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern).

In the 53rd minute, talented freshman Alexa Paparo (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) provided a much-needed insurance goal for the Devils by cleaning up a deflection in front of the net. The goal was the first of Paparo's collegiate career.

Trailing 4-1, the Stevens climbed within two on Welch's second goal of the season, however, the Devils thwarted any hopes of a Ducks' comeback by locking down on the defensive end.

Davis' two assists in the contest tie her for the team-lead with Allen and junior Nicole Hall (Collingswood, N.J/Collingswood). Additionally, the sophomore leads the Devils with 10 points this season. Junior netminder Amy Defnet (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) stopped seven shots in goal to earn the victory for FDU-Florham.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham plays their second of three-straight road contests this Saturday, September 20th against Moravian College with start time slated for 2 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
