Devils Blanked by Cougars In Freedom Tournament Opener

Box Score WEST LAWN, Pa. – The FDU-Florham baseball team was blanked 3-0 by Misericordia University in their opening game of the Freedom Conference Tournament on Friday night at Owls Field.

The Devils (21-13) will take on top-seed DeSales University tomorrow at 11 a.m. in a loser's bracket elimination game. With the win, the Cougars will take on Manhattanville College tomorrow at 3 p.m. All tournament information can be found here.

On Friday night, Misericordia sent Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Year Ryan Dorosh to the mound and he delivered. The sophomore tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout to earn the victory.All-Freedom Conference first team pitcher Chris Roberts (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) started for the Devils and took the loss, dropping to 6-3 on the season.

The Cougars jumped on the Devils with two runs in the top of the first inning as freshman Max German plated both runs with a double. In the top of the third, German struck again with a run-scoring single, which equated to the final run of the game.

Both teams struggled to generate offense, as the Cougars earned three runs on five hits, while the Devils tallied two hits in the ballgame. Junior centerfielder Frankie Tassielli (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and senior second baseman John Bowe (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) recorded the lone hits for FDU-Florham, who were unable to solve Dorosh.

Junior reliever Joe Hofmann (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) pitched 5.2 innings in relief of Roberts and allowed two hits, while striking out eight. German paced the Cougars attack and was the only hitter in the game to total multiple hits.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU-Florham faces elimination tomorrow, May 3rd when they take on DeSales University, with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. at Owls Field.
