Kyle Herron (Edison, N.J./J.P.Stevens) drove in four runs as the FDU-Florham baseball team defeated Baruch College 11-9 on Tuesday afternoon at MCU Park.
Freshman
Tyler Keefe (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) started for the Devils and went five innings to earn his first win of the season, while junior
Bobby Bray (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) pitched the ninth to pick up his second save of the campaign.
The Devils grabbed an early 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI-double by senior shortstop
Brandan Adams (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial).
Frank LaGuarina (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata) followed with an RBI-groundout and the Devils led 2-0 at the end of the first inning.
With the Devils leading 3-0, the Bearcats picked up a pair of runs over the course of the third and fourth inning, which cut the deficit to one. In the top of the fifth, Herron smacked a run-scoring single and another run scored on a fielder's choice to build the FDU-Florham lead to 5-2. The Bearcats fought right back with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to claw back within one run.
However, FDU-Florham countered with a monster sixth inning. Herron plated two runs with an RBI-single, sophomore
Bryan Pieschel (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) followed with his own RBI-single and the Devils took advantage of a wild pitch and an error to tack on two more runs and claim a 10-4 advantage.
Baruch tallied four runs in the seventh inning but Bray and the Devils bullpen shut the door to preserve an 11-8 victory.
Herron finished 2-for-4 with the four RBI, while Adams went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the win. The Devils stole a season-high seven bases in the win, led by LaGuarina and Adams who snagged two bags apiece.
Baruch shortstop
Nicholas Pomo-Roman went 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Bearcats in defeat. With the loss, Baruch drops to 8-12 overall, while the Devils improved to 11-5 on the season.
