Devils Rally for 4-2 Victory over Dolphins

Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham baseball team rallied late from a 2-0 deficit to defeat College of Staten Island 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Tomas D. Morales Baseball Field.

Freshman Tyler Keefe (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) started for the Devils and tossed seven innings, allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out five but earned a no decision. Sophomore James Dertouzos (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) plated the go-ahead run for FDU-Florham with an RBI-single in the eighth inning.

The Devils trailed 2-0 through two innings of play, but a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Brandan Adams (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) in the third scored their first run. Both team's starting pitchers settled in after that and the game remained scoreless until the top of the eighth inning.

After a walk and a hit by pitch, sophomore Bryan Pieschel (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) tied the game with a single through the left side of the infield. Three batters later, Dertouzous delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI-single.

FDU-Florham freshman reliever Matt Zingaro (Manchester Township, N.J./Manchester) tossed his second-straight scoreless inning, which setup the ninth. In the top of the ninth, junior center fielder Frankie Tassielli (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) provided an insurance run with a double down the left field line.

Devils closer Bobby Bray (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) sealed the victory with a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save of the year. Offensively, Pieschel and Tassielli led the Devils with two hits and two RBI apiece. Tassielli now has a team-high 46 hits on the season.
