Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior right-hander
AJ Pichalski (Iselin, N.J./JFK) tossed eight innings and allowed two runs as the FDU-Florham baseball team defeated King's College 8-2 in the first of three games between the teams this weekend.
Sophomore left fielder
James Dertouzos (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) set the tone for the Devils offense with a 3-for-5 afternoon, including a run scored.
With the win, the Devils move to 18-12 overall and 13-6 in Freedom Conference play, while the Monarchs drop to 8-17 and 5-14 in conference action.
Senior right fielder
Kyle Herron (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) notched the Devils first run of the game with a run-scoring single in the top of the second. Leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Herron knocked in another run with a sacrifice fly.
FDU-Florham added two more runs thanks to two errors by the host Monarchs and led 5-0 through five innings of play. Pichalski ran into some trouble in the home sixth but after allowing two runs the junior was able to limit the damage by getting a ground out and a foul out to end the inning.
In the top of the ninth, senior third baseman
Austin Tomaszewicz (Old Bridge, N.J./St. Joseph's Metuchen) reached on a hit by pitch and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by fellow senior
John Bowe (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck). Two batters later, FDU-Florham backstop
Kevin Sinclair (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) plated Tomaszewicz with a single to right.
Sinclair proceeded to score on the Monarchs fifth error of the game and freshman reliever
Matt Zingaro (Manchester Township, N.J./Manchester) tossed a perfect inning to secure the 8-2 victory.
Pichalski scattered seven hits and struck out three to earn his second win of the season, while
Andrew Fisher took the loss for King's and dropped to 0-4.
Sinclair went 2-for-4 on the day with two runs and two RBI, while junior center fielder
Frankie Tassielli (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) extended his hitting streak to four games in the win.
King's junior designated hitter
Greg Bartle was the lone Monarch to reach base twice and finished 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
Next up for the Devils:The Devils host the Monarchs for a double-dip tomorrow afternoon in their final home contest of the season. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. in Madison.
