Roberts Guides Devils to Seventh Win in a Row

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham Devils baseball team remained unbeaten in conference play and improved to 9-3 overall by defeating Manhattanville College 7-2 on Friday afternoon at Manhattanville Field.

Devils senior right-hander Chris Roberts (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown)was outstanding in the win and went seven innings, allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out eight Valiants to earn his third victory of the season.

FDU-Florham sophomore James Dertouzos (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) opened the scoring with an RBI-single to left field, which plated Frankie Tassielli (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park). In the top of the fourth inning, senior Kyle Herron (Edison, N.J./J.P.Stevens) launched his first home run of the year, which gave the Devils a 3-0 lead.

Two batters later John Bowe (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) doubled and later scored on a run-scoring single by Tassielli. The four runs were more than enough for Roberts, who promptly struck out the first two hitters in the home half of the fourth before inducing an inning-ending flyout.

Tassielli added a two-run double in the top of the ninth, which put the game out of reach and resulted in the 7-2 final. The sophomore leadoff man went 4-for-5 on the afternoon, including three RBI and a run scored. He is now tied for the team-lead in hits with Dertouzous at 18 each.

Bowe finished the win 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while senior Brandan Adams (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .368 on the campaign.

Manhattanville sophomore Jordanis Nunez was the lone Valiant to tally multiple hits and finished 2-for-2, while drawing three walks, however, the Devils prevented him from ever crossing the plate. FDU-Florham has now won seven-straight games and eight of their last nine.
