Box Score MADISON, N.J. – Despite the frigid weather, the FDU-Florham Devils baseball team's bats were hot on Thursday and they totaled 16 hits en route to a 12-4 victory over John Jay College.
Batting out of the second and third spots respectively in the FDU-Florham lineup,
Brandan Adams (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and James Dertouzous (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) combined to go 6-for-8 with six runs scored in the victory.
The Bloodhounds (1-10) opened the scoring in the first inning when junior backstop
Nestor Amarante smacked an RBI-single. However, the Devils (8-3) proceeded to take charge and tied the score at 1-1 with a
Ben Lyman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) RBI-single in the bottom of the third.
In the home half of the fourth, the Devils claimed the lead after Adams singled and sophomore catcher
Kevin Sinclair (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) scored on a John Jay defensive miscue. Senior
Frank LaGuarina (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata) followed with an RBI-double and then
Frankie Tassielli (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) smoked a two-run double to give the Devils a 6-1 lead. Tassielli knocked in four runs in the game and went 2-for-4 at the dish.
Leading 8-1 in the eighth inning, the Devils added to their lead when Lyman doubled home two more runs, which ultimately put the game out of reach. The eight runs proved to be more than enough run support for FDU-Florham starter Joe Hofman (Colonia, N.J./Colonia). Hofman tossed six innings, allowed six hits and one run, while striking out nine to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Devils took advantage on the base paths by stealing four bags in the win, two of which came courtesy of Adams. FDU-Florham has now won six-straight games and seven of their last eight.
