MADISON, NJ - The third-seeded College at Florham Devils will face second-seeded DeSales in the Freedom Conference Tournament on Friday, May 3, 2013, beginning at 7:30 pm in Quakertown, PA.
The two squads faced off three times this season with the Bulldogs holding a 2-1 advantage. FDU won the nine-inning game at DeSales on April 13 by a score of 8-6. In the game, junior designated hitter
Nick Meoli went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and three RBI while junior shortstop
Brandan Adams was 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI. Senior outfielder
Nick Core, senior catcher
Ricky Gathen, junior third baseman
Austin Tomaszewicz and sophomore outfielder
James Dertouzos all had two hits apiece. Junior pitcher
Chris Roberts picked up the win, tossing eight innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits while striking out three. Sophomore
Ryan Thurnes notched the save, going an inning and allowing one run on two hits. DeSales returned the favor the next day by winning both games of a seven-inning doubleheader at FDU by scores of 4-3 and 5-3 (10).
On Thursday afternoon, Meoli and junior first baseman
Frank LaGuarina were named Honorable Mention All-Freedom Conference. In the other game of the tournament, top-seeded Misericordia will take on fourth-seeded Manhattanville. The losers of the two games will play an elimination game on Saturday, May 4, beginning at 11 am while the two winners will play on Saturday beginning at 3 pm.
