Box Score NEW PALTZ, NY - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by New Paltz, 8-5, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 11-13 while the Hawks improved to 10-12.
FDU started the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI double from junior shortstop
Brandan Adams but New Paltz came right back with two in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. The Hawks added two more in the bottom of the second before the Devils cut it to 4-2 in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by junior third baseman
Austin Tomaszewicz. New Paltz got that run back in their half of the fourth and added two more in the fifth to grab a 7-2 advantage. FDU cut it to 7-3 in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI single by senior outfielder
Nick Core before pulling to within 7-5 in the top of the eighth on a RBI double from sophomore outfielder
James Dertouzos and a RBI fielder's choice by Adams. The Hawks picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-5 and got through the ninth unscathed to pick up the win.
Dertouzos finished the game 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI while Core went 2-for-5 with a RBI. Junior designated hitter
Ben Lyman was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore pitcher
Justin White suffered the loss, going 1.2 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits. Sophomore pitcher
Sean Gieger tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Baruch at Bronx Community College beginning at 4 pm.
