Devils Swept By Misericordia, 6-2 And 12-7

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were swept by Misericordia, 6-2 and 12-7, in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

With the sweep, the Devils are now 10-12 (6-5 Freedom) while the Cougars are 19-5 (9-1 Freedom).

GAME ONE - FDU got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run to left field from junior first baseman Frank LaGuarina.  The Cougars cut it to 2-1 in the top of the second before grabbing a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.  Misericordia took a 5-2 advantage in the top of the sixth and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

LaGuarina finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI while junior shortstop Brandan Adams went 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Sophomore pitcher AJ Pichalski suffered the loss, tossing seven innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits.

GAME TWO - The Cougars started the scoring in the top of the first but FDU came right back and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a RBI single from senior outfielder Nick Core and a bases loaded walk by junior third baseman Austin Tomaszewicz.  Misericordia got those two runs back in the top of the second and plated three more in the third to grab a 6-2 advantage.  The Cougars then scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 12-2 lead before FDU cut it to 12-3 in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from senior catcher Ricky Gathen.  The Devils cut it to 12-7 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run double from Tomaszewicz and a two-run double by junior outfielder Kyle Herron.  FDU then had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh but Misericordia got out of the jam to earn the sweep.

LaGuarina and Herron each finished the game with two hits while Adams scored two runs.  Senior pitcher Jake Hazen took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits in three innings.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Delaware Valley beginning at 1 pm.
