Box Score DALLAS, PA - Trailing 4-3 with two on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Misericordia got a walk-off two-run double to beat the College at Florham Devils by a score of 5-4 in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 10-10 (6-3 Freedom) while the Cougars improved to 17-5 (7-1 Freedom).

The Cougars started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning but FDU responded with three in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth, junior second baseman John Bowe led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior outfielder Peter Amerosi.  Sophomore outfielder James Dertouzos then followed with a single to give FDU two men on with one out.  Two batters later with two outs, junior first baseman Frank LaGuarina came up and crushed a three-run home run to left field to give the Devils the lead.  Misericordia cut their deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth before tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh.  FDU went back on top, 4-3, in the top of the eighth thanks to a bases loaded walk by junior designated hitter Nick Meoli.  In the bottom of the ninth, sophomore pitcher Ryan Thurnes got the first batter out before the next two got on base.  He then earned the second out but Misericordia came up with the game-winning double to center field to earn the win in the first game of the three-game weekend series.

LaGuarina finished the game 2-for-5 with a home run, two run scored and three RBI while Dertouzos went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored.  Junior pitcher Chris Roberts started the game and got a no-decision, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing two runs on seven hits.  Sophomore pitcher Chris Wirth-Kenyon then came on and threw two innings, allowing one unearned run.  Thurnes suffered the loss, going one inning and allowing two runs on two hits.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, April 6, 2013, with a doubleheader in Madison, NJ, beginning at noon.
