Devils Cruise Past Cross-Town Rival Drew, 12-3

Box Score MADISON, NJ - Junior second baseman Nick Meoli went 2-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBI while senior outfielder Nick Core, junior designated hitter Ben Lyman, and sophomore outfielder James Dertouzos drove in two runs apiece to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 12-3 win over cross-town rival Drew in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 15-18 while the Rangers dropped to 17-19.

FDU started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run from Meoli before Drew took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second.  The Devils plated three in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-run double from Lyman and a RBI single by Dertouzos prior to making it 6-2 in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run from Core.  The Devils blew it open in the bottom of the fourth by scoring four runs to grab a 10-2 advantage on a sacrifice by Dertouzos, a two-run home run from Meoli, and a solo home run by junior first baseman Frank LaGuarina.  FDU took an 11-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by junior shortstop Brandan Adams before Drew made it 11-3 in the top of the seventh.  The Devils scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run from freshman catcher David Stearns.

Junior pitcher Alec Fenstermacher picked up the win, tossing three innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out three.  Sophomore pitcher Justin White threw two scoreless innings and struck out four while sophomore pitcher Sean Gieger, sophomore pitcher Bobby Bray, and junior pitcher Chris Fleischman each threw a scoreless inning.

The Devils return to action on Friday, April 26, 2013, at home against Manhattanville beginning at 3:30 pm.
