Box Score MADISON, NJ - With two outs and a runner on first in a 5-5 game in the bottom of the eighth inning, the College at Florham Devils drew three straight walks to take a 6-5 lead on their way to a win over Purchase in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 8-7 while the Panthers dropped to 9-7.

Purchase got on the board first with a run in the top of the first before plating two more in the top of the second.  FDU scored two of their own in the bottom half of the second on a RBI double from junior outfielder Kyle Herron and a RBI single by junior catcher Aaron Solomon.  The Devils took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a RBI single by junior second baseman Nick Meoli and a Purchase error that scored two runs.  The Panthers came right back though, tying the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth and the game stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth inning.  Senior outfielder Nick Core singled with one out in the inning and was still on first with two outs.  Junior second baseman John Bowe then walked followed by a walk to junior third baseman Austin Tomaszewicz to load the bases.  Senior outfielder Peter Amerosi then came up and drew the third straight walk to push the winning run across for the Devils.

Core and junior first baseman Frank LaGuarina each went 2-for-5 with a run scored while Meoli went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Senior pitcher Jeff Jacobs started and got a no-decision, tossing five innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out four.  Sophomore pitchers Chris Wirth-KenyonAJ PichalskiBobby Bray, and Ryan Thurnes then came on and slammed the door, allowing only two walks over the final four innings.  Bray picked up the win by pitching the eighth inning while Thurnes earned the saves with a perfect ninth.

The Devils return to action on Friday, March 29, 2013, at home against Wilkes beginning at 3:30 pm.
