Box Score UNION, NJ - The College at Florham Devils dropped their 2013 season opener to #10 Kean, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 0-1 while the Cougars improved to 5-1.
Sophomore outfielder
Frankie Tassielli got the game, and the season, off to a great start when he led off the game and belted a solo home to left field to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. The Cougars got that run back in the bottom of the first and added a run in the bottom of the second to grab a 2-1 lead. Kean then blew the game open by plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the 7-1 victory.
Tassielli finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run and run scored while senior catcher
Ricky Gathen went 1-for-2 with a double. Senior pitcher
Jake Hazen suffered the loss on the mound, but looked good as he continues to battle back from Tommy John surgery, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits in five innings.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, March 3, 2013, with a doubleheader against Scranton at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ, beginning at noon.
