Box Score DANBURY, CT - The College at Florham Devils beat Western Connecticut, 5-3, on Wednesday afternoon in their final tune-up before the Freedom Conference Tournament starts on Friday.
With the win, the Devils improved to 22-16.
Western Connecticut got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third inning before FDU tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from junior catcher
Ricky Gathen. The Devils then grabbed a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth thanks to a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by sophomore designated hitter
Frank LaGuarina, a two-run single from senior first baseman
Ryan Fandel and a RBI single from senior catcher
Greg Caso. Western Connecticut came back for two runs in the bottom of the eighth but it wasn't enough as the Devils earned the victory.
Sophomore second baseman
Brandan Adams finished 3-for-4 with a run scored while Fandel drove in two runs and LaGuarina scored two runs. Freshman pitcher
Andrew Hille got the win in relief, tossing two innings and allowing one run (unearned) on two hits. Senior pitcher
Mike Winters notched the save, going 1.1 innings scoreless innings while allowing only one hit.
The Devils return to action on Friday, May 4, 2012, when third-seeded FDU takes on second-seeded DeSales in the Freedom Conference Tournament in Quakertown, PA, beginning at 7:30 pm.
