Devils Down Baruch, 9-3, In ECAC Semifinals

Box Score HOBOKEN, NJ - Senior shortstop Steve Seminerio and senior outfielder Matt Joiner each drove in three runs while senior pitcher FJ Lucchetti allowed three runs in seven innings to go along with 10 strikeouts to lead the second-seeded College at Florham Devils to a 9-3 victory over sixth-seeded Baruch in the Semifinals of the ECAC Metro Region Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 23-18 on the season and will play top-seeded Stevens for the title on Sunday afternoon.

FDU started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run from senior first baseman Ryan Fandel before making it 4-0 in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-run single by Joiner and a RBI single from sophomore designated hitter Frank LaGuarina.  Baruch cut it to 4-1 in the top of the fourth but the Devils plated two in their half of the fourth to take a 6-1 advantage on a two-run double by Seminerio.  The Bearcats made it 6-2 in the top of the sixth but FDU got that run back in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Seminerio.  Baruch scored their final run of the contest in the top of the seventh to close to 7-3 but the Devils got two more in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single from sophomore second baseman Brandan Adams and a RBI fielder's choice by Joiner to secure the win.

Seminerio finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI while freshman outfielder Frankie Tassielli went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.  Lucchetti allowed three run (two earned) on six hits in seven innings before giving way to senior pitcher Bobby Smith, who allowed only one hit in the final two innings.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, May 13, 2012, in the ECAC Metro Region Finals at top-seeded Stevens beginning at 2 pm.
