Devils Sweep Manhattanville, 3-2 And 3-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game in walk-off fashion by a score of 3-2 before taking the nightcap by a count of 3-1.

With the pair of wins, the Devils improved to 11-12 (7-4 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 9-12 (5-7 Freedom).

GAME ONE - Manhattanville got on the board right away with a run in the top of the first inning but senior first baseman Ryan Fandel tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run.  The Valiants grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh but FDU came storming back in the bottom of the seventh.  With one out, senior John Pieper ripped a pinch-hit double down the right field line and freshman outfielder Frankie Tassielli followed it up with an infield single to make it first and third.  Senior catcher Nick Marcucci tied the game with a RBI single and after the second out of the inning, sophomore second baseman Brandan Adams scored Tassielli from second with a walk-off single.

Adams finished the game 3-for-4 with a RBI while Fandel and Marcucci each went 2-for-3 with a RBI.  Senior pitcher Glenn Cox was fantastic on the mound in the win, tossing a complete game seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six.

GAME TWO - The Valiants struck first again with a run in the top of the second inning but Fandel got that run back in the bottom half of the inning with another solo home run.  FDU made it 3-1 in the bottom of the third thanks to a RBI double from Adams and a RBi double by junior outfielder Nick Core.  Freshman pitcher Robbie Drexel took over from there, allowing only two runners to reach second base after the third inning.

Adams and Core led the Devils as each went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.  Drexel was outstanding in earning the win, going a complete game seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits while striking out six.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at home against New Jersey City beginning at 3:30 pm.
