Devils Split With King's

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils split a Freedom Conference doubleheader with King's on Saturday afternoon, losing the first game by a score of 6-2 before rebounding to win the nightcap by a count of 8-7.  With conference play now wrapped up, FDU will enter the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament as the third seed.

With the split, the Devils are now 21-16 (14-7 Freedom) while the Monarchs are 13-24 (6-15 Freedom).

GAME ONE - King's started the scoring with a run in the top of the third before adding two more in the top of the fourth.  FDU cut it to 3-1 in their half of the fourth on a RBI single from junior outfielder Nick Core and sophomore second baseman Brandan Adams made it 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single.  The Monarchs scored three insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the win.

Senior pitcher Glenn Cox suffered the loss, tossing six innings and allowing six runs (one earned) on 10 hits while striking out five.

GAME TWO - FDU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a RBI single from Core and a RBI single by sophomore designated hitter Frank LaGuarina.  The Devils made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second on a RBI single from Adams before taking a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run by senior first baseman Ryan Fandel and a RBI double from senior shortstop Steve Seminerio.  King's got two back in the top of the fourth and plated five more in the top of the fifth to grab a 7-6 advantage.  The Devils tied it at 7-7 in their half of the fifth thanks to an error by King's before scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI double by freshman outfielder Frankie Tassielli.  The Monarchs threatened in the top of the seventh, getting a runner on third with one out but the Devils got out of the jam to earn the split.

Core finished the game 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI while Adams went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.  Tassielli was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI.  Freshman pitcher Robbie Drexel started and got a no-decision, throwing 4.1 innings while allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits.  Senior pitcher Mike Winters picked up the win in relief, going 2.1 innings and allowing no runs on no hits wihle striking out two.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at home for Senior Day against Staten Island beginning at 3:30 pm.
