Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - Senior first baseman
Ryan Fandel went 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 12-4 win over King's in the first game of a three-game Freedom Conference weekend series on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 20-15 (13-6 Freedom) while the Monarchs dropped to 12-23 (5-14 Freedom).
FDU started the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning on a King's error but the Monarchs tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first. FDU made it 2-1 in the top of the second thanks to a solo home run from Fandel but King's tied it again their half of the second inning. The Devils grabbed a 4-2 advantage in the top of the third on a RBI single by Fandel and a RBI single from senior third baseman
John Pieper before grabbing a 5-2 lead in the top of the fith on a solo home run from junior outfielder
Nick Core. King's cut it to 5-3 in their half of the fifth but FDU plated three runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-3 lead on a RBI single by Fandel, a RBI fielder's choice from Pieper, and a RBI single by senior catcher
Nick Marcucci. King's pulled to within 8-4 in the bottom of the seventh but the Devils blew the game open with four runs in the top of the ninth on a bases loaded walk by junior outfielder
Peter Amerosi, a RBI single from senior shortstop
Steve Seminerio, a RBI single by sophomore second baseman
Brandan Adams, and a sacrifice fly from senior outfielder
Matt Joiner.
Core and Marcucci each finished the game with two hits and a RBI while sophomore designated hitter
Frank LaGuarina scored three runs. Senior pitcher
FJ Lucchetti earned the win on the mound, tossing six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out nine.
The two teams return to action on Saturday, April 28, 2012, with a doubleheader in Madison beginning at 1 pm.
