Devils Rally To Hold Off Eastern, 6-5

Box Score ST. DAVIDS, PA - The College at Florham Devils faced an early 3-0 deficit but came back to beat Eastern, 6-5, in the first game of their three-game weekend Freedom Conference series on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 13-13 (9-4 Freedom) while the Eagles dropped to 17-11 (6-7 Freedom).

Eastern jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning but FDU cut it to 3-1 in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by freshman outfielder Frankie Tassielli before tying the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI triple from junior outfielder Nick Core and an Eastern error.  The Devils then grabbed a 6-3 advantage in the top of the seventh on a two-run doubly by sophomore second baseman Brandan Adams and a RBI single from senior outfielder Matt Joiner.  The Eagles got two runs back in the bottom of the eighth but the Devils shut the door in the ninth to earn the win.

Joiner finished the game with two hits, Adams knocked in two runs, and senior catcher Nick Marcucci scored two runs.  Senior pitcher FJ Lucchetti earned the win, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out five.  Senior pitcher Chris Laudati notched the save, pitching a perfect ninth inning.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, April 14, 2012, with a doubleheader in Madison beginning at 1 pm.
