Box Score MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by New Jersey City, 8-7, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 11-13.
The Gothic Knights got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning but the Devils responed with four in the bottom of the first on a two-run double from senior outfielder
Matt Joiner and a two-run home run by sophomore designated hitter
Frank LaGuarina. New Jersey City tied it at 4-4 in the top of the second but FDU took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI single from sophomore second baseman
Brandan Adams. The Gothic Knights tacked on two more in the fourth before FDU tied it at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth when Adams scored on a balk. NJCU grabbed a 7-6 advantage in the top of the sixth and added a huge insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it 8-6. In the bottom of the ninth, Joiner roped a RBI double to pull the Devils to within 8-7 and FDU had the bases loaded with no outs but could not push across a run allowing the Gothic Knights to escape with the victory.
Joiner finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI while Adams went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and a RBI. Senior pitcher
Matt LaTorre suffered the loss in relief, allowing one run on two hits in two innings pitched.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Misericordia beginning at 3:30 pm.
