Seminerio Gets 200th Career Hit As Devils Beat Wilkes, 12-10

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - Senior shortstop Steve Seminerio went 3-for-5 with a triple, a stolen base, three runs scored and two RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 12-10 victory over Wilkes in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.  The second of Seminerio's three hits was the 200th of his career, as he became the third player in school history to reach the 200-hit mark.

With the win, the Devills improved to 5-8 (2-2 Freedom) while the Colonels dropped to 5-10 (1-3 Freedom).

Wilkes started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning before FDU tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on a RBI single from senior outfielder Matt Joiner.  The Devils then went up, 2-1, in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI single by senior first baseman Ryan Fandel.  The Colonels came right back to tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth but the Devils plated two in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 advantage on a RBI triple by Seminerio and a RBI single from sophomore second baseman Brandan Adams.  Wilkes came right back again, this time scoring six in the bottom of the seventh to go up by a score of 8-4.  FDU cut it to 8-7 with three runs in the top of the eighth on a RBI single from senior catcher Nick Marcucci, a RBI single by Seminerio, and a RBI single by Adams.  After holding Wilkes scoreless in the bottom half of the eighth, the Devils pushed across five runs in the top of the ninth to tak a 12-8 lead thanks to a RBI single by Marcucci, a two-run single from Adams, and a two-run double by Joiner.  The Colonels threatened to get back in the game in the bottom of the ninth by scoring two runs but FDU was able to get out of the jam to earn the win.

Adams finished the game 4-for-6 with a run scored and four RBI while Joiner went 2-for-6 with a double and three RBI.  Marcucci was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while sophomore designated hitter Frank LaGuarina was also 3-for-5.  Senior Fred Lucchetti started and picked up a no-decision, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on five hits.  Senior pitcher Mike Winters earned the win in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits.

The two squads return to action on Saturday, March 24, 2012, with a doubleheader in Madison beginning at 1 pm.
