MADISON, NJ - Junior shortstop
Steve Seminerio went 6-for-8 with four doubles, a triple, five runs scored and five RBI in two games to lead the College at Florham Devils to a doubleheader sweep (12-1 and 6-3) over Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
With the wins, the Devils improve to 10-6 (5-2 Freedom) while the Aggies 3-10 (0-3 Freedom).
GAME ONE - Delaware Valley got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning before the Devils plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by freshman second baseman
Brandan Adams and a sacrifice fly from junior designated hitter
Matt Joiner. FDU tacked on four more in the second thanks to a RBI double from Seminerio, a two-run single by Adams and a RBI double from sophomore outfielder
Nick Core. The Devils added two more in the third to take an 8-1 lead on a RBI walk by Seminerio and a RBI single from senior outfielder
Matt Oliveto. FDU put the game away with four runs in the fifth to earn the 12-1 victory.
Seminerio finished 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI while Adams went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Joiner also drove in three runs in the game. Junior pitcher
Glenn Cox picked up the win, tossing a complete game seven innings while allowing one run on six hits.
GAME TWO - The Aggies again plated a run in the top of the first but FDU got it back in the bottom half on a RBI single from Core. The Devils tallied two runs in the second thanks to a RBI double from Seminerio and a RBI single by Oliveto. Delaware Valley cut it to 3-2 in the top of the third but FDU made it 5-2 in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by Seminerio. The Aggies got to within 5-3 in the top of the fifth but the Devils tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on sacrifice fly by Core.
Seminerio was 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBI while Oliveto went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Junior pitcher
FJ Luchetti got the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing three runs on two hits while striking out seven. Junior pitcher
Chris Laudati earned the save with a scoreless seventh.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at home against New Jersey City beginning at 3:30 pm.
