MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils lost both games of a Freedom Conference doubleheader to DeSales, 2-1 and 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
With the losses, the Devils are now 16-12 (10-8 Freedom) while the Bulldogs improved to 16-14 (11-5 Freedom).
GAME ONE - All of the scoring happened in the first inning as DeSales plated both of their runs in the top of the first while freshman second baseman
Brandan Adams drilled a solo home run in the bottom half of the fram. Neither offense could get much going as DeSales only had four hits while the Devils had five.
Junior pitcher
FJ Lucchetti suffered the hard-luck loss on the mound, going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO - FDU got on the board first in the nightcap, with a RBI ground out from senior outfielder
Matt Oliveto in the bottom of the third. The Devils made it 2-0 in the fourth on a solo home run by junior first baseman
Ryan Fandel. Things began to turn in the top of the sixth though as DeSales loaded the bases with one out. After a two-run single that tied the game, the Bulldogs got a bases-clearing double to take a 5-2 lead. FDU got a runner on in the seventh but couldn't muster anything else as DeSales earned the sweep.
Senior outfielder
Ryan Kalish finished with two hits for FDU. Junior pitcher
George Savaides took the loss, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Moravian beginning at 4 pm.
