Seven-Run Seventh Lifts Devils Past Delaware Valley, 13-6

DOYLESTOWN, PA - Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the College at Florham Devils exploded for seven runs to take an 11-5 lead on their way to a 13-6 victory over Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 15-10 (9-6 Freedom) while the Aggies dropped to 6-16 (3-9 Freedom).

DVC got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning but FDU came back with three runs in the top of the third on a RBI fielder's choice by senior outfielder Matt Oliveto and Aggie errors.  Delaware Valley tied it at 3-3 in the fourth before FDU plate a run in the top of the fifth thanks to a RBI double from sophomore outfielder Nick Core.  The Aggies responded with two runs in their half of the fifth to grab a 5-4 advantage.  In the top of the seventh, junior designated hitter Matt Joiner got things started with a RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk from junior third baseman John Pieper, a three-run double by junior shortstop Steve Seminerio and a two-run double from Oliveto.  FDU tacked on two more in the top of the ninth to make it 13-5 on an Aggie error and a bases loaded walk by junior first baseman Ryan Fandel.  DVC scored one in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little, too late as the Devils earned the victory.

Seminerio finished 3-for-6 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI while Oliveto went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI.  Junior pitcher Glenn Cox picked up the win on the mound, going eight innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits while striking out six.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at home with a doubleheader against DeSales beginning at 1 pm.
