PURCHASE, NY - The College at Florham Devils split a Freedom Conference doubleheader with Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon, winning Game One by a score of 3-1 before dropping the nightcap by a margin of 6-2.
With the split, the Devils are now 14-9 (8-4 Freedom) while the Valiants are 14-12 (6-9 Freedom).
GAME ONE - FDU got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning thanks a Manhattanville error. The Devils grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth thanks to a RBI single by junior third baseman
John Pieper before Manhattanville made it 2-1 in the fifth inning. The Devils scored a final insurance run in the sixth on a RBI double by freshman second baseman
Brandan Adams.
Adams finished 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI while senior outfielder
Matt Oliveto also had two hits. The story of the game though was senior pitcher
Brandon Smith, who tossed a complete game seven innings while allowing one run on four hits.
GAME TWO - The Valiants started strong in the second game, scoring two runs in the first, one in the third and three in the fourth to grab a 6-0 advantage. FDU cut it to 6-1 in the sixth when senior outfielder
Dan Pregno scored on a passed ball. The Devils made it 6-2 in the seventh thanks to a Manhattanville error but couldn't get any closer as the Valiants got the split.

FJ Lucchetti suffered the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at home against Mount Saint Mary beginning at 3:30 pm.
