Devils Tripped Up By Manhattanville, 12-7

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by Manhattanville, 12-7, in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 13-8 (7-4 Freedom) while the Valiants improved to 13-11 (5-8 Freedom).

Manhattanville jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a run in the first inning and two in the second inning.  In the bottom of the second, the Devils plated five runs on a RBI single by junior third baseman John Pieper, a two-run single from senior outfielder Dan Pregno, a RBI single from senior outfielder Matt Oliveto and a Valiant error.  Manhattanville tied it at 5-5 with a run apiece in the third and fourth innings before taking a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning.  FDU tied it at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a RBI single from junior shortstop Steve Seminerio.  The Valiants came right back though, scoring four in the top of the seventh to grab a 10-6 advantage.  The Devils got one back in the eighth on a RBI single by Pieper but Manhattanville scored two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to put the game away.

Freshman second baseman Brandan Adams finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Pieper went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.  Junior pitcher Glenn Cox started and went six innings, allowing six runs on 13 hits.  Junior pitcher Mike Winters suffered the loss in relief, tossing an inning and allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, April 16, 2011, with a doubleheader at Manhattanville beginning at 11 am.
