STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College at Florham Devils knocked off Staten Island, 6-5, in non-conference action on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved to 13-7 while the Dolphins dropped to 14-13.
The Devils got on the board first in the top of the third inning on a RBI double from senior outfielder
Matt Oliveto but the Dolphins got that run right back in their half of the third. FDU grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the top of the sixth on a CSI error but the Dolphins came right back again and tied it at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning.
FDU made it 3-2 in the top of the seventh on a RBI ground out by junior first baseman
Ryan Fandel before taking a 6-2 lead in the eighth thanks to a RBI single from junior shortstop
Steve Seminerio and a two-run double by senior outfielder
Dan Pregno. The Dolphins plated three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth before junior relief pitchers
Mike Winters and
Chris Laudati shut the door in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
Pregno finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base and two RBI while Seminerio was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and a RBI. Junior pitcher
George Savaides started the game for the Devils and picked up a no-decision, going 6.1 innings and allowing two run (one earned) on four hits while striking out four. Winters threw a perfect eighth inning after he came on in the middle of the frame while Laudati picked up the save in the ninth, striking out two.
The Devils return to action on Friday, April 15, 2011, at home against Manhattanville beginning at 3:30 pm.
